'If at first you dont succeed, dust yourself off & try again, you can dust it off & try again' The quote isn't from me but from a song from the late 'Aaliyah' that I have been singing most of my adult life but failed to apply to my life when needed. I mean, how many times has life dealt you a wrong hand & you simply decided to give up on whatever it was that wasn't working, relationship, job, business...? Am guilty as charged & even though there are some instances when that...

Oh yes am back after a short hiatus here on the Blog, & no, I don't have any concrete excuse for my abscence. Life sometimes just happens & you get completely caught up in it. I felt like wearing a simple midi-skirt so I went ahead & made myself one with this fabric that has been lying around in my Fabric-stash for years. I also made a matching crop top but that will make its 'Blog-appearance' some other time. Hope that you are all well & am glad to be back.

Some call it 'Tartan print' but for me, this is a 'Maasai print' because it is widely associated with the 'Maasai' of East Africa. I used a 'Maasai shuka' to make this a ruffle skirt whose design was inspired by the popular Gingham ruffle skirts. I made this skirt a couple of months ago when I needed a 'Kenyan-inspired' outfit to attend the 'Sauti Sol' concert in Berlin (but it has since then lost some inches on the hemline). And in keeping with my 'Valentines Day' theme, I just had to include...

'Women who support each other are confident, generous, visionaries'........Mariela Dabbah This is an exhibition & market founded by Cleopatra Hänsen which aims to bring together talented women who are also business owners to give them an opportunity to showcase their products. It takes place a couple of times in a year & I was able to attend the last one this year for the first time.

My friend invited me to tag along to the WIDI (Women in Digital e.V) Event that was hosted by the ‘Otto Group' here in Hamburg. What an amazing event it was where we got the opportunity not only to take part in a panel discussion but we were also able to mingle & interact with other empowered women. It was nice to find out that I am not the only woman trying to balance motherhood & entrepreneurship on her own, as these women in top positions at their consecutive Organizations also...

Nothing makes me happier than seeing my client looking amazing in a custom outfit that I‘ve made for them. But what most people don‘t understand is the amount of time & work that is invested in doing just one outfit of their own design . Right from the beginning from making the appointment, taking measurements, studying the design that they want (usually a photo of an outfit that they‘ve seen on the internet), creating a specific sewing pattern, fabric choice, purchasing of all the...

There's this stylish blogger that I love & whose style is such an inspiration to me, Sade Akinosho . She never fails to wow with her amazing outfits & when she had on this stylish tulle top, I fell in love with it & was almost ordering it from her online shop for myself (before my bank account put a stop to that line of thought)😜. A quick rummage through my 'Fabric stash' & I re-discovered this tulle fabric which was actually a wrong purchase that I had made at Mahler Stoffe...

Did you know that FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) is unfortunately still deeply rooted in some cultures & is being practised by communities not only in the developing countries but also in the developed world. Migration of people all around the globe means that most migrants even as they try to adapt to their new homes tend to hold on to some of their cultures & traditions. FGM is unfortunatley one of such traditions that is still being practised even by the younger generation. I was...

I must admit that it has taken me quite some time to develop a liking for Cropped Kick flare jeans. Flare pants just don't look flattering on me because i have short legs so wearing them make me look my legs look even shorter. So, this cropped version somehow adds legnth to my frame & they are also perfect as the weather gets warmer.

2 years ago today, I officially registered 'Oriwo-Design' & a lifelong dream of mine came true, and it truly still feels like a dream. ,You know that saying that goes 'If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life', well, it's not true. I do what I love every single day and it is really hard work. But the only difference is that there this feeling of satisfaction & happiness that I get when a client loves an outfit that I made them, that is just unbeatable. Thank you so...
